We’ve been driving for two days down Route 66 and already passed 2 different cities called Lebanon. Yesterday we passed Lebanon in Missouri so I had to take a look.
It was actually one of the nicer towns I have seen so far in the US, but the people there told me their city had no relations to Lebanon in the Middle East. Personally I find that hard to believe since the two names are spelled exactly the same… What do you guys think?
After Lebanon we left Missouri for a warmer and more exotic location: Kansas. We passed Joplin where a tornado killed 160ish people last year and destroyed parts of the city.
Then we entered Oklahoma and passed the village of Picher. It was so destroyed by a tornado in 2008 that now it is abandoned.
Cruising down Route 66 it is impossible not to notice all the classic tourist traps along the road. Many of them are innovative and funny and are meant to let the locals make some money from tourism. It all reminds me of when I was five years old and started selling stones to tourists. After all the name of my village is Stone. We have seen huge pop bottles, a barn with a round roof, and all kinds of creative museums along the road.
It is said that Route 66 is where you can get your kicks, and perhaps the Haunted Bordello is one of the places that’s a real kick
There are so many things to see along Route 66 that I almost forgot about Hollywood. Only 1437 Miles to go! And soon we will enter Texas. Wish us luck! And please give some tips if you any!
