As we’re reaching the end of the most exciting and most productive year in 2famous.TV’s two-year-old history, we figured it was about time for a little roundup of our most glorious moments of the year.
We went to Nepal, we covered the Beirut party scene for the summer of 2013 with the most epic videos, we started our own cooking show AND we hosted our very own radio show in collaboration with Radio Beirut where well-established indie bands, as well as some of the most exciting up-and-coming sounds from Lebanon and Syria, could express themselves to our audience in small intimate concerts, broadcasted live.
Here’s a playlist of 25 intimate musical performances for 2famous.TV RadioShow
It’s been a great year. The website has gone through several face-lifts, we finally got ourselves a Facebook page, and we’ve published some great stories from various contributors who wanted to get involved with our project.
To break it down: we basically went from being a website about Matias and Jørgen’s claim to fame to being an online magazine to cover cultural events on the ground in Beirut. That worked pretty well, and all together we published 222 stories, 52 videos and 25 podcasts in 2013.
Adrian has definitely been the star of 2famous.TV this year. Not only has she worked as the editor of the website, hosted her own radio show (first with Layal and then with Matias), started her own cooking show on the site, but she’s also published 48 stories, making her the most frequent contributor to the site. She has really changed the face of 2famous.TV for the better, and is a great representative of what 2famous.TV has become.
Her most popular post this year ”It’s OK To Do Nothing Or: The Art of Chilling. Travel Diaries III – Step 2: Suntan my A**hole” was a huge hit and is 2famous.TV’s second most viewed post. Nuf said!
Adrian’s very own cooking show
Matias has been pretty much on fire this year, knocking out video after video, and covering Beirut’s underground culture like no one else. He has also shared some of his most epic journeys around the world in a series of photo stories called “Oh, places you’ll probably never go…” His blog post “My Dad Launched an Extreme Sports TV Channel!! Was he inspired by 2famous.TV” is also the most viewed post of the year.
When we went to Nepal Matias took us to some of his secret spots and introduced us to some of his old friends from the days where he used to work for a TV channel in Katmandu.
In December, he also found himself the only member of 2famous.TV left in Beirut to hold down the fort, hosting our weekly radio show all by himself.
Here’s a list of the videos we made in Nepal
Jørgen might not have been the most frequent writer of 2famous.TV this year, but he has written thousands of lines of code on the backside of the website making sure it looks slick and loads fast wherever you are.
Other highlights for Jørgen this year is that he found true love (for the first time in his life!!!), and checked out of Beirut in August. A couple of months later Layal (his true love) followed him to Oslo, Norway where they are currently freezing in darkness lit by their love.
However, before he left Beirut he was declared “the Hipster of Lebanon” by various online publications. Here is his respond to some of the more “mean” comments he got.
Adrian & Layal’s RADIO SHOW” with Adrian at Radio Beirut – the first real underground female talk show in Lebanon (or the Middle East?) where discussions often tapped into subjects that are considered social taboos.
This is how cool Jørgen is
Early October, she packed her suitcase for good and moved into the arms of Jørgen in Oslo, Norway. Layal most often writes about her awkward experiences of growing up as a lebanese immigrant in the US, but here is a story of how she experienced hiking in the mountains of Norway.
Meghan, our hilarious beauty writer, has gone through the greatest personal adventures this year. Not did she only leave the Middle East (UAE) to live in the US with her husband, but, tada! she’s also expecting an adorable baby! But seriously, with titles such as “Sexy Menstruation” and “So You Pooped Your Pants. Buy These Underwear To Feel Better.” She’s the only person that makes the boys of 2famous.TV enjoy reading about beauty, and that’s a great achievement.
Adrian, The Man
When we got an email from Canada by a man that wanted to move to Beirut to be part of our team we could not hide our excitement and welcomed Adrian The Man as part of our crew. For three months he covered the music scene as well as sharing some of his most epic moments traveling around the Middle East before he got hired for his dream job by a kick ass international company. He is a a great writer who is always welcome to share his experiences on our site whenever he has time to.
This is what it looked like when the new star of our team got kicked out from backstage of a Guns’n Roses concert.
Apollo De Azizi was a contibutor to 2famous.TV for about a month, but what makes him special is that he was the only full-on homosexual writer blogging about his sexual adventures in the Middle East without covering his identity. It was a brave move in a country where homosexuality is illegal, and we are proud to have been a platform where he could express himself freely with posts such as “Sugar Boys & Poor Daddies” and “I Am Rural Chick“.
Knut is Jørgen’s little tech-helper and has been contributing to 2famous.TV on the backside since we started a little more than two years ago. He is also a devoted internet activist believing in freedom of speech and human rights in general. This year he surfaced on 2famous.TV with stories such as “Everybody is Spying on Me, and I’m Not Even Famous!” and “The Real Law is #Fame“, putting him on the map as our internet security/freedom of speech writer.
Every once in a while we get contacted by people that wants to contribute to our site and we’ve had the privelege to publish some great stories.
After the bomb in Tripoli earlier this year a young man contacted us and wanted to share his personal story and published “Black Friday: They Day They Tried to Destroy Tripoli’s Sprit“, which gave our readers some first-hand account of the events, something not usually covered in the mainstream media.
“The DO’s and DON’Ts of Friends with Benefits” by Taylor has been a pretty good hit with the search engines this year, and in December our latest contributor from Denmark covered a story of a Palestinian/Danish poet that is criticizing Islam through is lyrics – a brave young man that puts his safety on line for the sake of freedom of speech.
Other noteworthy posts we’d like to bring special attention to is “Kidnapped by Hezbollah, Jailed by the Army FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM WITHOUT WASTA” where Rami Aysha, a long time friend of 2famous.TV, talks about his difficult experiences of being a journalist in Lebanon. In “Meet The Boundary Pusher Danish/Palestinian Poet Yahya Hassan Is This Controversial Poet Fueling Racism?” our Danish friend talks about the Danish/Palestinian poet that risks his security and freedom by criticizing Islam through his art, and in “SAVING LEBANON One Tooth at the Time“, we follow our friend Abdallah as he talks to children of domestic workers in Lebanon about dental care.
We would like to thank all of our loyal readers who have followed us throughout the year, and we are very excited to embark on a new year of more epic stories from 2famous.TV. And remember that we do this for love, not money, so every share or like you generously give us encourages and motivates us to keep going! Happy New Year to all of you!
– Full-length interview with the producer of this summer’s biggest hits.
– BONUS VIDEO! Crowd Cam from Example’s performance at Hove!!!
Today marks the UK release of Live Life Living, the fifth album of Brit musician Example. Sure we had never heard of him before despite his whopping 2 million followers on Twitter and 25 million listens on Spotify, but Example already knows that.
“In Norway people know my songs more than my name, when I tell them I’m Example they’re like ‘... [more]
– Catch the show tonight so he doesn’t have to
“We’ll be stage diving and shit, so hopefully I won’t break my knee or neck, I don’t want to die. Ok, If I could choose to die I’d rather die on stage then somewhere else…” Rapper Arif told 2famous.TV, as we discussed being a local superstar, what festivals like HOVE mean to Norwegian artists and what we should expect from his show tonight.
– The kids went mental!
Some of the artists at the Hove festival OWNED the audience, and Bastille was definitely one of the highlights. With complete crowd control they moved thousands of Norwegian teenagers to synchronized madness. It was one of those experiences that will live for ever on hundreds of Instagram accounts. (Most of the kids here says that they don’t remember the festival from day to day). [more]
HOVE goes hardcore when L.A. rapper hits the stage
Earl Sweatshirt, who hails from my hometown adjacent city of Los Angeles (well, as you’ll see in the video, even if L.A. is the easiest point of reference on the international scene, if you grew up in the ‘burbs, never tell people who are actually from L.A. that you’re from there, because they will call your Orange County ass out so fast), shook the AMFI stage with some hard-... As the 2famous crew sat on the beach, contemplating life and looking out onto the horizon, distant tribal beats were calling our names. We had to get to where ever that music was coming from. The 20-minute journey from the beach to the stage was playing was dramatic…we were walking fast in fear that The Busy Twist... [more]
